A Touch of Festive Plaid

I do love my festive plaids, and this cashmere scarf that I picked up in Scotland takes the number one place in my heart. It’s just the perfect blend of colors and oh so warm. Best for topping off a basic outfit like this one with its punchy Christmas colors, or layering it over my favorite festive fair isle knit in similar colors (last seen here) for a coordinated look.

Today though, I’m keeping it simple by adding a pop of color to what’s basically the winter uniform. A luxurious cashmere turtleneck sweater, favorite denim, a tailored wool coat and knee boots.

Shop: Exact scarf |Turtleneck – the only cheap cashmere that doesn’t itch | Denim | Coat (old) similar here, and here | Boots (old) similar here | Earrings (sold out) similar here, here , and here (LOVE these!)

It’s the perfect way to show your festive, Christmas spirit in a chic, subtle way if you’re not into going all out with an OTT themed ensemble! And the best part is that each year it’s in style, each year it’s just as cozy as the last, and I have no desire to run out and replace it! What I’m getting at is it’s so much better to invest (and really this scarf was not an investment, it was very affordable) in classic pieces that are made of high quality fabrics and in colors that are timeless, or will at least coordinate with your wardrobe and personal tastes for years to come. I’ve never regretted saving up for a quality item that fits with my personal style, but ALWAYS regret impulse purchasing trendy items that are cheap in every way.

Let’s talk about these boots for a second – I’m loving that knee-high boots are on trend this winter! I’ve had this cute pair that are embellished with bows at the top and ankle for almost 10 years. More proof that investing in quality wardrobe staples pays off.

What’s one quality item you saved up for and have loved ever since you first got it?
