Reviewing the Daydress Blue Trail Chintz skirt – the 18th century inspired garment I currently can’t take my eyes off of.
I introduced you to one of my favorite slow-fashion brands last year in this post, and today I want to debut the newest addition to my growing Daydress collection; the frill skirt in a divine blue and white chintz print inspired by a gown from the 18th century. I’ve been eager to shop this brand again after experiencing first-hand the exquisite craftsmanship, unique prints that I have yet to find a comparable alternative for, and silhouettes that are both modest and extraordinarily beautiful.

I’ve been browsing for a spring/summer appropriate skirt since late in the winter season this year, as I currently have just one that fits the bill, and as it’s a solid color I really wanted to add a patterned skirt for a bit of variety. My criteria was that it be printed and with more than just one color, and as always since I have a pear shape, must be an A-line or flair silhouette; narrowest point being the waist, and full from there on. Being exceedingly picky, and 9/10 times knowing exactly what I want and what I want it for, I also needed it to work for both casual and dressy occasions; homeschool to church to dinner, etc.
The frill skirt in this 18th century inspired “blue chintz trail” print jumped out at me from the first sneak peek the brand provided before the spring collection dropped. The waist is elasticized with a dual-sided functioning drawstring with the blue chintz fabric on one side, and a contrasting print on the reverse; exactly the kind of unique yet small details I fall for! The modest midi-length has been a favorite of mine going on a few years now as it’s both breezy and cool when it’s hot, yet short enough to be completely wearable; not a tripping, or a flashing hazard in any way!
For colder weather, midis work beautifully with knee-high boots and tights as well. Let us appreciate everyone’s favorite detail for a moment, the pockets, of which this skirt has two, very generously sized. I’m going to try to upload a little video I made to show the movement of this mid-weight poplin skirt – it floats and twirls beautifully owing to the wide hemline which adds a bit of extra weight at the bottom of the skirt. Sizing
As far as I’ve experienced (the Dakota dress, and now this skirt) Daydress’ sizing runs true, to slightly large, with the brand’s size charts being useful and accurate. Across the board, I am usually a women’s small (4-6) in bottoms with a 27 inch waist. The XS in this skirt – even when cinched as much as it can go – has a little bit of wiggle room. This is exactly what I was hoping for when saw this skirt, and envisioned myself wearing it spring through fall with blouses, tank tops, and sweaters alike. Similarly, I like my garments to have a bit of space to accommodate for whatever direction my weight fluctuates over the decades that I will be wearing this skirt for.
Where to buy
Normally, I like to buy straight from the designer, when I can. However, credited to high shipping costs and import duties, buying direct from England is a bit more expensive now than in the past. So far, I’ve found only a few retailers in the U.S. who stock Daydress and will ship for free or significantly lower cost than the $30 – $50 I’ve been quoted from overseas retailers, and can recommend these two, as I’ve had great experiences with both:
