Spring Dresses + Slow Fashion Edit

Spring is here in Virginia – weather wise – and I finally feel like I can breathe again with the sun setting later, warm days spent in the garden preparing for the season ahead, and the burst of creativity that inspires me each time a new collection drops from any of my favorite designers. If you’re new here, you’ll quickly learn that spring and summer are my favorite, most inspired seasons and this goes double for fashion. Pretty pastels, elegant florals, silhouettes inspired by bygone eras of romance and femininity; everything is to love! This year is particularly good if you’re a fan of slow fashion. My buying habits have gradually become more concentrated on supporting smaller, newer designers, and slow fashion. The kind of detail, care, and craftsmanship that you get in an artisan made, “slow-fashion” garment is unparalleled in the fast-fashion world, and honestly I’ve spoiled myself with my dresses from Sue Sartor, Daydress, and D’Ascoli! If there were ever a dress with a more justifiable price tag; my Paloma flounce dress is an heirloom that I will cherish until it’s time to finally hand it over to my little ladies. For summer, nothing is as chic and elegantly relaxed than D’Ascoli, and for the perfect – and I do mean perfect – balance of 18th century style romance and an everyday workhorse dress, look no further than the Colette dress. For the prettiest pastels, perfect grandmillennial details, and mommy & me pairs, Dondolo is your place, and I’ve linked plenty of their beautiful frocks below. You’ll probably notice another detail I’m gravitating towards lately, and that’s out with the mini and in with the midi/maxi. The ease and comfort of a midi (and not having to constantly worry about accidental exposure) have become one of my favorite things, so expect lots of more modest, easy styles on this list. I also am more into vibrant colors than I usually am – perhaps because I’ve been wearing so many neutrals for so many years? Maybe I need all the joyful color I can inject into my life after a bleak winter? Who knows, but I do know there are some really beautiful bold colors, like this dress, that I am swooning over! For shoes to go with any of these dresses for all occasions, see this post.
