Ruffles, Mary Janes and Other Cute Things

One of my favorite Black Friday purchases this past season are these adorable Mary Jane shoes. I’d been eyeing a designer version for a few years but never felt moved to save then splurge on a pair of shoes I wasn’t completely sure I could wear for years, as I would want to be able to do with an item at that price. This is a piece of advice I’ve offered in the past here on MatM, if you like an expensive designer piece but not sure if it’s worth the investment, buy a less expensive look-alike and see how often you reach for it. That test proved to me that a pair of elegant velvet Mary Janes would indeed be a worthy investment for me, and luckily, the designer version is currently on sale here!

I wanted to make these shoes stand out against my outfit, so I went with a neutral monochrome palette in a contrasting color. I chose my absolute favorite blouse, and mainstay wool coat that I decorated with this vintage gold bow brooch. The pants are a figure flattering, high-rise crop with straight silhouette – the perfect style to make your cute shoes stand out! The pants are a soothing stone color which is a great winter “white” option, and they run true to size with the perfect amount of stretch and give to move around in comfortably.

If you have been eyeing a pair of Mary Janes for yourself, let this be your confirmation to go ahead and give them a try! Even a basic outfit looks intentional and well-planned when finished with a classic element like this. Dress them up, or down – they always look elegant.
