We have been truly blessed with the most beautiful fall here in Virginia; brisk mornings where we’ve been able to enjoy our coffee outside, cuddled up in our lightweight sweaters followed by warm afternoons full of sunshine and delicate breezes. Of the five years we’ve lived in the DMV, this is definitely the nicest fall we’ve enjoyed so far! While the warm weather still lingers, I’m not busting out the mid-and heavy-weight sweaters just yet. Cardigans, light knits, and easy on-and-off layers are what I’m leaning on right now since they aren’t even really necessary just yet. I was so reluctant to mentally let go of summer but all of the gorgeous fall collections and the earthy fall colors in summertime staples have me getting increasingly excited for the changing season! I’ve styled 5 outfits to try this autumn for whatever plans you have featuring colors, textures, and a few trendy details that I’m currently browsing and buying for my own wardrobe. This entire post could also be viewed as a fall capsule, as everything can be mixed and matched! Some things are currently on sale, so I’d suggest getting them if they are, or bookmarking this post in your browser to refer back to. I had this outfit in mind for an early fall date night and will be stalking these shoes and this dress for them to go on sale. A dusty pink, cream, or gold lurex cardigan draped over the shoulders would be perfect as an added warming layer, if needed. Plaid is to fall as pastels are to spring, and these shoes are the most comfortable I’ve ever tried (I reviewed them here). I love the color palette used here, and as is usually the case with plaid, these can be styled with an endless array of ensembles thanks to their wide range of colors. This bag is only $30 and after years of browsing, is one of the best Hermes Kelly dupes I’ve found. It comes in black, and in chocolate croc embossed in a larger size which are both gorgeous. I have this exact bow and use it constantly during the winter, especially, when I need an extra bit of glam during the doldrums of the season.
Thanksgiving outfit, anyone? I shared this dress in a light blue a few months ago in spring, and it was a big hit with readers and Instagram followers! My idea behind this look was Thanksgiving and also fall family photos with the warm, earthy palette and ultra feminine details. Bringing up these shoes again because I am obsessed with their fall fabrics! You already know my love for them goes deep, and this is one shoe I recommend getting in multiple colors/prints because they are truly so comfortable and versatile (can be dressed up or down), an actual workhorse heel. Remember this bag from the last look? Another versatile, classic style that you can wear with anything in your fall capsule. Likewise, these earrings are without season, though bows always do harken of Christmastime to me.
If I had to pick just one, I think my favorite girly fall color palette would be this one; cognac, dusty pink, and ivory. I love rich textures during fall and this boucle blazer that’s under $70 is the perfect classic, elegant topper for casual, business casual, and dressy-casual outfits. I love the longer length, especially on us pear-shaped girls, as it minimizes our widest section and adds balance. This shirt has got to be my favorite find this fall – the Liberty London fabric is the prettiest I’ve ever seen and utilizes a wide variety of beautiful fall hues which means it will go with everything you style it with. My personal favorite way to dress down blouses is with these buttery soft jeans. You will never find more flattering, softer, or more comfortable denim! Pulling from the blouse, I’ve chosen these darling pink ballet flats – which have a higher vamp so no icky toe-cleavage – and matching headband for a classic preppy look.
Sharing this again (first seen here) because it’s just that good! Talk about layering textures and patterns – chambray is a great way to add texture to your fall outfits, while keeping them light (visually, I always buy light washes) and easy to wear. Pop a classic quilted jacket over top, and style with a cute paid bow and you’ve got a masterful mixture of patterns at play – swoon! Since we have a lot of excitement up top, I’ve kept it more simple with these buttery suede loafers (currently 60% off) and simple satchel. If wearing the top unbuttoned, add the gold necklace – which would be adorable with any of these looks, by the way!
I’m really happy with this last look as it’s a little out of my preppy/grandmillennial style comfort zone leaning more toward the trendy/street-style type. I’ve made it perfectly grandmillennial using a favorite light green monochrome palette, adding pearls, and keeping it casual with these sustainably made sneakers that are currently having a major moment since being spotted on a duchess. My inspiration was my typical Saturday; wanting a cute, functional, easy outfit to wear when running errands, going out to lunch, and relaxing at home with my family. This ensemble ticks all of those boxes and is just so pretty!
