It’s been an exhausting and emotional first two weeks in our new home; from finding out just how much work goes into a home that “just needs a little paint,” to learning how to stay organized in our downsized space. Needless to say, it has not been a very smooth transition but we have learned SO MUCH in such a small amount of time, and are thoroughly enjoying all of the new homeowner highs when we complete another project!
So far our home purchases have been pretty boring: paint, so much paint; paint supplies (yawn), new carpet, a few rugs, and window treatments for every window. I know that all sounds fascinating, but stay with me because we’re almost to the fun part! We brought over all of our decoration from the previous house, but still could use quite a bit more in that way to really make my vision come to life. Since I don’t yet have a completed space to share with you yet, I did want to share some of the items I currently have and love, and some that I’m currently browsing, buying, and adding to my wish list for the upcoming months. 1. Baskets with scalloped liner
These have been on my wish list for quite some time, and I finally treated myself to them as a housewarming gift…to myself. Beautiful decorative pieces and practical storage solution – can it get any better than that!?
2. Blue and white bath towels
These beautiful towels are still the most amazing towels I’ve ever tried! I wrote about them when I first got them in this post. I love how they dress up my bathroom, and how cozy and absorbent they are. Highly recommend!
3. Lantern pendant light
Another item I’ve been “sitting on” is this lantern pendant light. First discovered on Pinterest years ago, I was so glad to finally have the perfect place in my home for it! Photos to come soon.
4. Linen bow curtains
For the little angel’s room, I knew I wanted something beautiful and decorative yet subtle, and in linen to go with the rest of the house. Since bows are my favorite decorative accent, I did a quick search and stumbled upon these. They’re a bit of a splurge for child’s draperies, but they are worth it for the quality and style.
5. Gold statement mirror
Ever blogger’s dream mirror – I almost purchased this during Christmas but couldn’t bear the thought of one more thing to pack, so I held off. I have the perfect place for this above my mantle for when I finally do pull the trigger!
6. Blue and white transferware tankards
I’ve never been good at buying trinkety little decorative pieces, figuring they’ll just get destroyed the next time the military moves us. Now, however my thoughts on that are changing, and I think this will be one of the things I devote more time searching for and collecting, now that we have a semi-permanent place to display them. Presently, I am considering the large one of these as a utensil holder, and the smaller ones as vases.
7. Marble bust
One of my favorite new “trinkety” decor purchases that I picked up while in Ohio recently. I found my Greek bust at Home Goods, but this one is identical, the same price, and real marble. A necessary element of French-inspired interior design, but at a very reasonable price.
8. Rug
Rugs are another home item I’ve neglected buying, but not wanting to scratch our wood floors, we’ve decided this was a rather important purchase. I found this rug and love it – so too does hubby! I bought the non-slip rug pad as well, and it’s currently the highlight of my office space in our new home!
9. Dining table
We’ve been needing to replace our seven year old dining table for a while now, and as soon as I saw this one I knew it was the one! I shopped around trying to find something just as good but my heart was fully and completely set on this one. It’s currently backordered, but when it arrives it will tie our home together perfectly.
10. Blue and white chinoiserie planter
I have a small chinoiserie planter, and love it, so I have been searching for a similar one for another plant I have. This one is just what I need as it elevates the plant enough so that it’s at window level and also looks stunning! The price is unbelievable, as most others like this will run you $300 or more.
Like I said, I currently don’t have any completed spaces to reveal, but those are coming soon, I promise! The best way to catch those posts is to go to the home page, enter your email into the subscribe box, and as soon as I post something, you’ll be the first to know.

March 6, 2021 at 5:21 amI love to do room makeovers!!
I don’t have a private single room for myself, so I really am jealous of you because you can shape and decide what to do with your rooms. Especially decorations!
Good luck in making out your new home, and hope you have a great place to live!!

March 8, 2021 at 8:10 amThank you so much! It’s taken a long time to finally have a place of our own that we can do whatever we wish to, but it’s worth the wait!
