Christmas is always a favorite holiday to dress for. I love getting to wear sequins, shimmering satins, rich velvets, and elegant jewel tones for our festivities, as these are fabrics and colors I don’t usually wear. No matter what’s on the agenda though, I always dress up! As I spend most of Christmas day in the kitchen making sure everyone has enough to snack on throughout the day, I like to balance flashy-festive with chic-casual in my outfit choice so that I’m both comfortable, and dressed to the standard I set. Before the big day arrives, there are other festivities to dress for like our Christmas dinner on the 23rd where we all go out to a restaurant to eat, and Christmas Eve church service on the 24th. Three opportunities to dress up; it truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
Dressing up for a holiday is as easy as adding a few glittering final touches. Sequined pumps, sparkly drop earrings, a brocade headband, or festive statement jewelry can make any outfit a bit more special. I’ve put together 5 outfits that would be just perfect for all of your Christmas celebrations, and provided links to shop each item. However, most of these looks are simple enough that you probably already have similar pieces in your wardrobe, and I always encourage experimenting and mixing and matching with items you already have! Perhaps my favorite dress of all time, this “nap dress” is for so much more than just lounging about – although I do hope I get to do a little bit of that on Christmas day! It’s got everything I look for in a dress: elegant, feminine details; long length; luxurious material that will hold up for years, and a print that I could never get tired of looking at! The most amazing thing about this dress has got to be the price. Similar pieces sell for hundreds (plural), yet this dress is extremely affordable. I wore this on Thanksgiving, and after how comfortable I was, my life’s goal is to have a closet full of these objectively perfect garments!

I absolutely love the elegant simplicity of this ensemble! I have the most fun styling monochrome outfits, and this one has got to be one of my all time favorites. My youngest daughter took one look at this and gasped, exclaiming that I looked like a winter fairy, ha! I have to agree with her – I felt as though I would fit right in with the cast of the Nutcracker ballet in my creamy winter whites, cozy cable knit, and shimmering gold accessories! Recreate this magical look by pairing a cream midi skirt with a cream cable knit sweater. Accessorize with whatever color you like, but I recommend sticking with gold to keep it monochromatic! I recently purchased these shoes on sale after being slightly disappointed with a pair of Jimmy Choos I ordered. I could not be happier with the look, price, and feel of these heels! I have a few other pumps from this designer and can say that they only become more comfortable as you wear them; they’re the only inexpensive shoe I’ve been able to say that about! The material of these is a shimmery mesh, so they are less prone to scuffing and damage and wipe clean easily (take it from the voice of experience). I order my usual size. This skirt has been another staple piece in my dressed-up all-season wardrobe. It’s the perfect weight for fall through spring and looks so elegant paired with everything! This is one item I highly recommend every lady have in her wardrobe, as it’s so versatile.

I made a post rounding up sequin dresses a few weeks ago, and since then I have still not found one half as lovely as this one! It just ticks every box for me; looks like a designer piece, fits like a dream, has elegant statement sleeves, and the color is just perfect. I can’t wait to wear this to celebrate, as it’s just as comfortable and easy as it is fancy. It comes in four colors and I recommend taking your usual size, I’m wearing a small. Again with the monochrome, I decided to pair nude leather barely-there heels and gold jewelry.

Classic tartan and jewel-toned green are a lovely traditional pairing that I’m sure everyone can recreate with what’s already in their closet! The bow blouse adds a festive touch, while the cashmere scarf serves a dual purpose as a warm layer and elegant accessory. Classic black d’orsay pumps add a chic Parisian vibe, and a bold holiday red lip makes this outfit undeniably festive!

Another look I’m super excited about – this casual Christmas outfit is perfect for laid-back ladies who don’t love dresses and skirts but still want to jazz up their holiday attire. And these patent red pumps, red bow earrings, red bag, and bold red lip certainly do jazz up these minimalist ivory jeans! I threw this look together (literally, threw all this on the floor to see if it would even work) as we were walking outside to snap some photos, and I was so excited with how well it came together! These pants have got to be one of my BEST purchases this year. The perfect ultra-high rise, stretchy enough to be comfortable all day, and straight leg silhouette; all features I’m loving in pants right now. Alas, I’m sorry to report this fabulous sweater is nowhere to be found. It’s a few years old from ASOS and each December I get super excited to wear it again! Make that 10x more excited this year now that I have these jeans, and can make this minimalist combo! I’ll link a few similar knits, as everyone needs at least one outrageous Christmas sweater, whether to wear ironically, or completely seriously like I do!

Whatever your Christmas season social calendar looks like, it’s never a bad idea to make sure you have the perfect outfit ready to go! Many of these pieces are wardrobe staples or seasonal staples that I recommend having on hand, while the formula for each combination – monochrome, pops of seasonal red, classic red and green, tartan and bows – can be recreated with whatever you have in your closet already. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
