This flirty flounce-hem lace floral applique skirt from a previous season caught my eye earlier this year. Me, being allergic to paying full price for anything decided to wait until it went on sale and BOOM, for less than $90 this season-less, timeless skirt is mine all mine!
So how does one style a spring skirt for fall?
Layer it! Specifically, with a trench coat – a quintessentially autumnal wardrobe staple – and a lightweight cotton sweater. Of course it’s still more like summer than fall temperature wise here, so I’ll be wearing these heels as much as possible – they are SO comfortable!
Wanting not to detract from the skirt’s fabulous floral appliques and intricate lace, I decided to go with a monochromatic color palette for a chic, timeless, elegant look.
Paired with pearls and a quilted handbag, this ensemble may lack color but it certainly makes up for it in soft textures and vintage-inspired details.
Tips for styling a monochromatic outfit:
- Use varying hues within the same color family (I’ve used white, cream, taupe and tan).
- Play with textures for various focal points and interest (I’ve used pearls with crystal embellishments for shine, a quilted bag, and solid sweater to let the skirt stand out).
- Keep the style consistent (I would not wear casual jute and canvas espadrilles, or an edgy leather jacket with this classic and feminine look)
