Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Fall is just a month away and what better way to prepare than with a wardrobe refresh!

Everyone should have a “capsule” within their wardrobe. A limited number of coordinating pieces that can be worn interchangeably to make up numerous ensembles. Of course, it’s not all black and tan. No capsule wardrobe is complete without a statement print and color that’s right on trend – see item number seven below!

It can be tricky to put together a cohesive capsule wardrobe; whether you’re downsizing and want to maintain a minimalist lifestyle, or want your capsule to be full of base pieces to build the rest of your wardrobe upon, so I’m here to help! I’ve put together a fall capsule full of timeless pieces to supply you with everything you need for work, weekend, date night and everything in between – take a look!

Warm Layers

Pieces 1 and 2 are chic, business appropriate and can be elevated casual pieces. Made of quality materials that will give you just the right amount of warmth on brisk fall days, both the collarless blazer and wool blazer can be layered over tops, skirts and dresses alike.

Ok, so really just a pretentious way of saying “tops,” pieces 3, 4, 5 & 6 can be worn as a single top, or layered beneath either of the first two pieces depending on the weather, or dress (business or casual). I believe every closet should have a classic white button down, a silk printed top, a statement top (in my world that means lots of BOWS!) and of course a sweater (ruffle collar an added bonus!).

I’m a huge fan of J. Crew work pants and denim and own both numbers 9 and 10! Number 9 is super flattering and as comfortable as a nice pair of leggings, and number 10 holds up great after washing, as well as allows for plenty of movement from the moment you slip them on. Make your outfit work-ready by swapping the jeans for the skirt or pants.

Every capsule wardrobe should include at least one dress. I’ve included two, one geared mainly toward work (#8) and occasions that require more stately dress and one that is right on trend and can be worn for work, date night, or as an elevated casual day dress (#7).

Accessories & Shoes

In a capsule wardrobe, shoes, belts and hair accessories should be in the same colorways and prints as the garments. The idea is to use accessories to tie the whole look together and make the outfit look complete. This is also one good area to explore trends, such as the knot headband (#13), or croc-embossed ballet flats (#15) – just stick with your chosen color palette! Instead of a plain hair tie, a cute satin bow scrunchie (#14) is the perfect accessory to add an extra dose of femininity while serving a more practical purpose as well.

I’m so ready for fall and more cozy looks like this!! Are you ready for fall?

xo, Mia
