Today was absolutely beautiful outside, literally the perfect spring day! Luckily, Nate scheduled some time off to coincide with our big girl’s spring break, so we decided to make the most of this gorgeous day.
Unfortunately, none of our plans worked out. We haven’t seen the National Zoo yet, so that was what we originally had slated, but when we got there, we sat in traffic outside the gate for about 10 minutes, then drove around the surrounding neighborhoods for about 20 minutes before we decided to give up and go elsewhere. Kind of annoying when it’s a long drive into the city and you don’t have a ton of time before the toddler has a missed-nap-meltdown, but such is life in a city! We then decided to head over to another place we’ve yet to visit, the National Arboretum, which was much larger than we expected and after walking around for a little bit, decided to leave in search of lunch and come back on a day where we had more time (and weren’t starving!) to enjoy it.
The one thing about today that did work out though, was my outfit. Simple, comfortable and perfect for warm summer-like days such as this!
The top is the softest, light-weight material in a summery blue and white stripe print. I am always warm, so wearing long-sleeves in the heat is a great way to guarantee heat stroke, but this top was surprisingly cool! We walked the arboretum in direct sun at 1230 this afternoon and I felt cool as a cucumber while also – BONUS- protected from the sun’s surprisingly hot April rays.
This hat and these shorts are staple pieces from last year that are inexpensive, high-quality, and timeless and can be worn so many different ways. These sandals are a Black Friday buy so this was my first time wearing them – they were super comfortable through all the walking we did (we also walked around National Harbor after lunch). I love the laid-back, rustic summery vibe lace-up sandals give an outfit and they look great with everything from wide leg jeans, shorts, skirts and dresses alike!
I can’t believe it’s this time already – it seems like it was just wool coat and boots weather a few short weeks ago – but I’m excited to blog about more warm-weather ensembles! Leave a comment saying which you would prefer to see more of – skirts/dresses, OR shorts outfits for summer?!
