Easter Basket Ideas for Kids

It’s nearly Easter and while I’ve yet to figure out what we’re going to eat for our celebratory Easter lunch, I’ve got the girls’ Easter baskets ready to stuff with goodies from us and their grandparents!

Easter has always been a big deal in my family, as well as my husband’s. Growing up, Easter was a bit like a mini Christmas. We could always expect to get dressed in our best outfits and spend the morning at church for a refresher on why exactly we celebrate Easter, then come home to a feast with extended family. Somewhere mixed in there, mom would decide we were worthy to receive our Easter baskets, which were always overflowing with sweet treats, trinkets and those darned panoramic sugar eggs that as an adult, I loathe. I mean they’re cute, but just so. much. sugar.

In keeping with tradition, my girls will find plenty of chocolate-y delights and bunny-shaped goodies nestled among pastel colored plastic grass. However, I’ll be throwing in a few extra goodies as well! Read on for ideas for your little ones’ Easter baskets too!

For our big girl (8 years old), the idea of a Mad Libs book came to me about a month ago – does anyone else remember those from their school days? So much fun, especially for a girl who loves to be silly, like my Layla!

For our tiny princess, a big book full of Disney Princess stories! She is all about her bedtime stories and mama needs a break from reading the same horrible “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” book. 😖

For both girls, bubbles are a must for warm weather fun, chalk is also a classic basket staple! Copious amounts of chocolate that mom can nibble on hehe, and of course jelly beans, which aren’t pictured. I’m not a huge fan of giving my kids technology – they’re just too young – so books, play pretend and other mind-stimulating toys and activities are my go-to gifts!
More ideas here:

  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Crayons/colored pencils, etc. and coloring books
  • A new/ first bible (Layla is getting one for her birthday next week!)
  • Stickers
  • Board games (Clue, Battleship, Scrabble Jr., Catan Jr., Sorry, etc.)
  • Jump rope
  • Water balloons
  • Water gun
  • Play Doh
  • Play jewelry/ purse
  • A new outfit for summer
  • Puzzles
  • Smart Games
  • Rush Hour – our favorite!!
  • Dolls, or stuffed animals

The most important gift however, is taking your children to church and giving them the opportunity to learn about why we get all dressed up and spend the afternoon in a sugar coma.

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3: 16-17 NIV

Jesus, God’s only son, died on the cross for the purpose of giving ANYONE and EVERYONE who calls on Him and proclaims Him as their savior, eternal life. This is a big deal! A HUGE deal!!! I’ll leave it at that, as I don’t want to give away any spoilers ahead of your Sunday church service. 😉

Tell me in the comments – how will you be spending Easter Sunday?

xo, Mia
